Special Presentation And Trophy Award Winners For 2009

Open Meet Trophy:  Louise Scupham

Louise has gained 3 NEC time and pb’d continuously through the year. She also achieved a top ten place at the Yorkshires. Louise’s training is something that has to be watched to believe! Many times she has gone beyond breaking point and literately collapse in a heap on poolside gasping for air. Pure dedication!! In meets, the ability to self motivate is an other attribute!! By the time the race has come around she is bouncing off the walls and more than eager to race, and normally beat opponents to a pulp.

Most Improved Top Squad Girl:  Lizzie Swift

What more is there to be said that the papers haven’t said already. Her achievements this year have put the club on the map with other clubs taking notice. At one point this year she was the fastest girl in the country at 5 events. When Lizzie trains, she sets the bench mark for others, often older than her to follow.  She is blessed with a talent, swimmers and coaches dream of but her feet are firmly on the ground Jon makes sure of that. A fiery redhead, who does test him, but who works hard for Jon and for the club to achieve her merits. Definitely one for the future!

Most Improved Top Squad Boy: Tom Heaton

Tom has attended all Open meets this year available to him. He narrowly missed out NEC times but through hard work and the dedication to the Programme he should excel in 2010. An Open meet just isn’t the same without the ‘Heaton’s’ in tow. One of the hardest trainers in the programme, he sets the standard that others have to match.

Friendly League Trophy (Girls):  Charlotte Platten

Charlotte was nominated for this award last year. Her dedication and determination have continued as strong as ever.

Friendly League Trophy (Boys):  Connor Rutter

Conner although only still young has been a real battler with the club for years, always putting in effort in training. This year he has performed really well in the East Coast League

Most Improved Novice (Girls):  Morgan Wilson

Morgan is a relatively new member of the club who has shown real commitment to her swimming. She has worked hard to catch up with the other girls in her section and age group.

Most Improved Novice (Boys):  Aaron Gilson

Aaron has worked really hard over the year to improve his standing in the club. He has shown great pleasure in swimming and has upped his training to at least 3 sessions a week

Endeavour Trophy:  Heather Atkinson

‘Lucky Heather’ always has a smile on her face normally accompanied by a comment when she is at training. Always works hard during sessions and is a joy to coach. She is a very valuable member of the team and races 100% and then some more.

Robert Fisher Novice Plate – 1:  Alex Sedman

Alex has been swimming outdoors for 3 seasons, she turns up week after week for a chit chat and social as well as completing a couple of no nonsense laps just for the hell of it! She is always cheerful and seems to thoroughly enjoy immersing herself in cold water with the rest of her family, well done and see you next year

Robert Fisher Novice Plate  - 2:  Lewis Sykes

Lewis is a newcomer to the world long distance swimming, this particular swimmer trains hard and consistently indoors and decided to see what all the fuss was about at Wykeham, despite using the facilities offered by the boat crew on more than one occasion, this young man kept turning up week in week out to push himself to the limit - looking forward to watching you blossom next year

Endeavour – K & M Dickinson Award: Mary Beth Hebron

Mary Beth is a very quiet and unassuming young lady in her first season outdoors, the lake terrified her and that was apparent on so many occasions - but it was never going to beat her, with the help of our fantastic crews and the camaraderie of the other swimmers she came week after week and to her credit pulled out all the stops and won the end of season handicapped race

Robert Fisher Endurance Trophy: Chloe Springhall

Chloe never makes a fuss and is a pleasure to crew for. She gets in week after week and has done for the last three seasons, She is usually the first in and the last out and has built up the distance she swims considerably over the time she has been in the open water squad, well done and lets get you down some of the BLDSA lakes next year

Les Rouse Trophy:  Sam Sedman

Sam is in his final year as a junior competitor, he has over the last 5 years helped numerous young swimmers take the plunge into Wykeham and competed around the country, always representing the club to the best of his ability and in a manner that makes him worthy of being our club captain for 2010

Kingfisher Shield:  Tom Wilkinson

This is awarded to a person or persons who have best served the club in all areas and put something back into the sport by helping and encouraging others, this could be awarded to a swimmer a teacher or a helper and without a shadow of a doubt Tom has displayed all of these attributes well done Tom and Thank You!

Kingfisher Cup:  Maggie Burchfield

This trophy was established last year to recognize a very special contribution by an individual who has shown exceptional commitment to the club through which ever role they hold. It provides an opportunity to pay tribute to someone quite unique within the club and to demonstrate publicly just how much their efforts and dedication are appreciated so Thank You Maggie for all your
