Frank Davis Medley Gala

This is a medley relay gala held annually in memory of Frank Davies. Frank and his family were members of Kingfishers for many years and Frank served on the committee being the treasurer for quite some time. Sadly in 1995 Frank died of cancer and his family have provided trophies each year for this gala to be held in his memory.

The swimmers are organised into teams hopefully evenly matched with each team having where possible, a swimmer aged under 9, under 11, under 13 and open. The idea is that the first swimmer does 1 length backstroke and then the others each do 2 lengths, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.

Ann Mayman Freestyle Relay Gala

Ann Mayman was a life member of Kingfishers Swimming Club. Like most parents she became involved when her two sons David and Paul joined the club as young swimmers.

After a short time of sitting in the balcony she was persuaded that she could become an active member of the club and volunteered to become club secretary, a role she carried out for many years – keeping the committee in line.

When her sons progressed to competitive swimming and open events Ann was always there watching and supporting.

When Ann retired from the role of secretary she continued to support the club in many ways. She could be seen on most club nights helping Ann Jordan on the front desk. Ann was presented with life membership in recognition of her tireless efforts in supporting the club.

Ann died in 2005 after a short illness and each year the gala is in memory of Ann and all the work she did for the club.
